We are pleased to publish an important work regarding Cotswold Morris tunes, created by the late Gwilym Davies and provided by Carol Davies, who has asked that we make this widely available.

Following the untimely death of Gwilym Davies in the Summer of 2022, the draft materials of his thesis were collated and examined with the degree of MPhil awarded posthumously in May 2023.

For over 50 years Gwilym Davies had shown an extraordinary commitment to research, education and promotion of the folk arts. This included song collecting throughout the 70s-2020s creating a substantial archive of field recordings and then making this and other archives available to the public in the form of a website (glostrad.com), performing and projects, gaining respect locally, nationally and internationally.

Gwilym was a morris dancer and musician with Gloucestershire Morris Men for more than 50 years, playing melodeon and pipe & tabor and including a term as Squire.

This page provides links an appreciation of Gwilym, the thesis, the "database" in Excel format  of the tunes and a list of recordings made by Gwilym, with links to the those where samples of the music were available.
