Tony Ashley’s Funeral

Tony Ashley’s Funeral

Tony Ashley’s Funeral

Friday 3rd September

11am – please arrive earlier, in time for Tony to arrive at 11

Markfield Natural Burial Ground, Markfield Lane, Markfield LE67 9TB

The family would like all morris dancers in kit and those who don’t have kit to be in bright colours. Will musicians please bring instruments so that you can help provide music. The family would like music to be played and for dancers to lead the coffin in procession to the burial site and then, after a short service, to take part in the dancing and singing Tony loved so much.

Tony’s funeral will be a natural funeral. Therefore it will be outside and happen at the burial ground. After the service itself, the family would love people to stay on, bring a picnic, and partake in singing, playing and dancing, and celebrating Tony’s life. The family will provide beer so please bring your tankards.

As this is a natural burial ground, this means the ground itself has no facilities. Tony’s family are aiming to source some portaloos for the day. Assume this is the case unless you hear differently. There is also no shelter so please be prepared for wet weather (coats / umbrellas) if this is forecast. And if you don’t wish to sit on the ground, please bring chairs for after the service.

Can we request that attendees use a lateral flow test before the day and, if they test positive, to stay away.

There is very limited parking in the burial ground itself and this will be reserved for family so please park on the road. Can we recommend that car sharing happens where possible to limit the number of cars parking on the road. There may be opportunity for use of a local farmer’s field – it will be obvious from signage on the day if this is being used.

Directions

From the North

We suggest using the M1, and leaving it at Junction 22, the exit for Leicester North. Take the 3rd exit, the one immediately after the access road back onto the M1 to go south. This is Cliffe Lane. Follow this road, go straight over the first roundabout, and take the next left onto Elliott’s Lane. Then follow directions from Elliott’s Lane below

 From the South

We suggest using the M1, and leaving it at Junction 22, the exit for Leicester North. Take the 1st  exit. This is Cliffe Lane. Follow this road, go straight over the first roundabout, and take the next left onto Elliott’s Lane. Then follow directions from Elliott’s Lane below

From the East

We suggest using the Leicester outer ring road, and then joining the A50 Coalville Road.  Go to the M1 junction 22, and then take the 2nd  exit, the one immediately after the access road back onto the M1 to go south. This is Cliffe Lane. Follow this road, go straight over the first roundabout, and take the next left onto Elliott’s Lane. Then follow directions from Elliott’s Lane below

From the West, and / or North / South West.

If coming from the far north west, (typically from the M6 for example) we suggest continuing along the A50 to the M1, and then following the directions above, as if you are coming from the North.

From the south west, we suggest leaving the A42 at the Ashby de la Zouch turn off, and following the A511 toward Leicester.  Go past Coalville, still on the A511. When the road becomes a dual carriageway, turn right at the first roundabout (traffic light controlled), onto Stanton Lane. This becomes Cliffe Hill Road. Take the third turn on the right, which is Elliott’s Lane. Then follow directions from Elliott’s Lane below

From Elliott’s Lane

At the T junction, turn right onto Broad Lane, which becomes Markfield Lane. Go past South Charnwood High School on your left. Look for the unrestricted speed limit sign, and slow down as you then need to find somewhere to park.
