On Wednesday afternoon ( 17 October) The King's Morris spent three hours on the village green at Great Massingham in Norfolk, being filmed as part of BBC TV's Countryfile programme.
The theme of this edition of the programme is village greens. Fortunately, The King's Morris were able to get a team together on a working day at six days' notice. The weather was unseasonably sunny and warm, while the team danced Constant Billy (Headington) incessantly, as the camera covered every conceivable angle. When thinking about their theme of village greens, apparently Morris dancing was the first thing that came to the minds of the production team. But a local cricketer and school-children were also featured on camera.
The programme went out on the evening of Sunday 11 November (Remembrance Sunday). http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01nzknv/Countryfile_Forest_of_Dean_Remembrance/
The King's Morris have had their best press coverage ever for their current recruiting drive. The two local newspapers gave the usual pre-publicity for their all-day dance session in King's Lynn town centre in September, and also for the follow-up "taster session" for beginners in October. They didn't photograph the public displays (when they were in full kit), but the Eastern Daily Press turned up unexpectedly for the informal indoor "taster session". This resulted in a front-page feature, and a full page article on page three. The King's Morris suspect that they have to thank the fact that little of note happened over the weekend, hence the high profile news coverage, but as this is Norfolk we think they are being unnecessarily modest!
