Jack Brown passed away peacefully on the morning of March 5th after a long life lived to the full. He leaves a wonderful legacy and our thoughts go out to his family and to the many close friends in the Morris world.
His Grandson Max, has passed on the following "celebration" arrangements
Date: Friday 27th March
Time: 3:30pm
Location: Lichfield & District Crematorium, Fradley Ln, Fradley, Lichfield WS13 8GA
BUT
They have decided that the planned wake for Jack will not now take place.
The Crematorium part of the funeral will go ahead unless there are further restrictions, but there will be no opportunity for dancing and they do not want anybody to be put at risk. They will also not consider it a slight on Jacks memory if clubs are not represented.
As mentioned at the ARM, Jack was keen that some "Day of Dance" should be held in his memory, but had no interest in the actual funeral. He left some money in his will for that event and arrangements will be made in due course for a suitable celebration of his life. The funeral is not the end, but the beginning of that celebration.
In the light of the current virus restrictions it would be sensible if most Morris Dancers could defer their acknowledgement of Jack Brown's contribution to the folk world until the current problems are over. Nobody is saying you cannot attend the funeral, but for most people the subsequent happy occasion envisaged by Jack would be preferable.
Thanks
