This weekend's East Suffolk Ring meeting saw the Squire Elect, Eddie Worrall, take up office. Sides from all over the country – and Utrecht from Holland, gathered together to see Adam Garland, the outgoing Squire, dance the final jig of his tenure to the playing of his sister Emma. He handed over to Eddie who played for members of his own side, the Saddleworth Morris Men, who “danced him in” in traditional North West style.
Adam Garland, our squire for the past two years, offered a huge thanks to everyone from the Ring, Federation and Open Morris who helped make his time such an enormous amount of fun. He has been delighted by the assistance, advice, and welcome he’s received all over the country. He is also pleased and honoured to have been part of two years which has seen the three organisations working closer together than ever before.
The new Squire of the Morris Ring writes:
“What an amazing weekend at the East Suffolk MM Ring Meeting. It's been an honour to dance in today as Squire of the Morris Ring as a member of Saddleworth Morris. Thanks to the Saddleworth lads for an awesome weekend. The Ring has clogs on for the next couple of years!
I look forward to seeing many of you over the next couple of years, and working with the Morris Federation and Open Morris (great to see Nicky Pickering and Fiona Lock this weekend). Adam Garland will be a hard act to follow, but I'm looking forward to having a go!
Finally, thanks to Carolyn Worrall for all the support she has given me, and in taking on this role. I was proud to have you with me this weekend”.
