Dear Friends
If you have not received an invitation to the Thaxted weekend of dance that will be held on its traditional weekend in 2025 that is the 30th of May to the 1st of June. Fear not! We do accept sides who apply to the Thaxted Bagman!
The festivities kick off on the Friday evening with welcome food/information and dancing for those that will. The Saturday will be as old hands have come to expect, a breakfast followed by bus tours of the beautiful surrounding countryside stopping to dance in several pubs, a pub lunch will also be provided. The tours will end up back in Thaxted for the massed procession from both ends of the town then show and massed dancing in the centre. From that a glorious feast where you will handsomely fed and watered. More mass and show dancing leading to the climax of the evening when the Thaxted Men dance the haunting and sublime Abbots Bromley horn dance. On the Sunday after breakfast a short procession up the hill and church for the spiritually inclined then more dancing before lunch. After lunch relaxing Morris and social dancing with the public in the Margaret street gardens.
We have been very lucky in the last few years with our wonderful service providers who have given us very good deals, we want to thank them this year by paying them a little more, this means an increase in ticket price of £4 per ticket. We feel this still offers extraordinary value at £80 for the whole weekend including all food, indoor quiet, indoor or outdoor camping, the coach and some beer. (£60 for the full Saturday and £40 for the ‘small Saturday’) Under 18 and students are half price.
We at Thaxted want our weekend to be accessible to all so if any of your members are in genuine financial need yet still want to come then please contact us via the club bagman and we may be able help.
Thaxted Morris men believe our weekend should be gender inclusive, all sides regardless of the gender profile of the dancers or musicians will be most welcome.
The indoor camping, coach tour and food are for dancers and musicians only with an exception for dependent children. Non dancing/playing partners are welcome to camp ( for free) but will have to make their own transport and food arrangements, this is to keep the numbers manageable and we ask your cooperation on this.
Numbers have to be limited so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment and we are filling up very Fast. To book, contact the Thaxted Bagman and he will send a form if we have space.
Kind regards
Rob Evans (Bagman of Thaxted Morris Men)
