What better way to spend the first weekend of September than in the glorious county of Kent. The Hartley Morris Men have invited Morris Ring sides to join them in celebrating their 60th anniversary and seeing the incumbent Squire of the Morris Ring dance out and welcoming in the new.
The event will be based at Wrotham school in their adopted home village of Wrotham where some 180 members of Morris Ring clubs will be joining them on Friday the 31st August.
On Friday evening there will be for informal music, dance and song at local hostelries in Wrotham and in nearby Borough Green.
On Saturday guests will be taken on 5 bus tours to attractive locations including: a steam railway, historic towns, National Trust properties and of course village pubs. The tours which are on the meeting programme page, will be tailored to suit all traditions and styles bringing the diversity of the Morris to the community. On Saturday evening the local pubs in Wrotham and Borough Green will again be visited.
On Sunday morning we will adjourn to Tonbridge for a procession of all the performers through the Town alongside the River Medway, followed by the massed display which will be held in the grounds of Tonbridge Castle. The Mayor of Tonbridge will attend to see the incumbent Squire of the Morris Ring, Peter Halfpenney dance out and the new Squire, Robin Springett dance in. He will also see the North British Sword Dancers and Devils Dyke Morris Men dance in to become full members of The Morris Ring.
